Dolly Warren
Nearly half a century ago, Dolly Warren and her husband made a promise to God. They committed themselves to give of their time and money to His Kingdom. They began by dedicating a room in their house they called the Prophet Room, reserved for guests serving the Lord. Yet, they yearned to do more. As friends of Cornelius Haggard, then-president of Azusa College, the Warrens began to see the needs of the school and to pray fervently for the staff and students. They backed those prayers with generous gifts of desperately needed funds. In 1990, the Warren Music Building was named for them.
After years of involvement with Azusa Pacific, a letter came addressed to Dolly inviting her to meet with the Board of Trustees. She was shocked, and certain that the letter was meant for her husband, but Dolly was just the person the board was seeking as a new member of their team. "I realized then that God was asking for more than my prayers and my money, He also wanted me to give of my expertise," said Warren, who was highly successful in the real estate industry. She accepted the nomination and has been an integral part of the decision-making process at APU ever since. As APU continues in obedience to God's calling to produce well-trained Christian scholars, physical growth has become an important part of the university's strategic plan. Dolly Warren's keen sense of the market has given the Board of Trustees invaluable guidance in sculpting the new face of APU.
"Azusa Pacific University is an incredible place," said Warren. "It's the people that make it so unique. I simply love the people." And Dolly Warren is one of those people that make APU what it is -- a thriving, God-serving university.
